President of PSUT Explores Avenues of Cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology

In light of a Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between PSUT and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), world-renowned as a first class institute of higher education, the President of PSUT, Professor Mashhoor Al-Refai headed the visit of an academic delegation to IIT. The aim of the visit was to activate the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between the two parties during a visit by the President of the Indian Republic to Jordan, when he met with His Majesty King Abdullah II. The two leaders had agreed to a plan which aimed at building bridges of cooperation and exchange between Jordanian and Indian universities. 

Prof. Al-Refai and the accompanying delegation attended a number of meetings with the President of IIT and a number of officials from the Institute.

The President of PSUT was accompanied by the Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, Dr. Belal Sababha, and the Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Professor Arafat Awajan, who attended the series of meetings with members of the administration of the different IIT Schools. Professor Al-Refai stated that the visit had resulted in an agreement to cooperate in several fields, including the promotion of academic exchanges between the two sides, the exchange of faculty members in shared disciplines, in addition to the exchange of graduate students, and joint supervision of doctoral dissertations in Computer Science and Master’s theses for the degree in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Power and Energy at PSUT.

Prof. Al-Refai added that they had also discussed ways of enhancing the University’s PhD program in Computer Science, and the Master’s programs in Engineering, Computer Security and Computer Science through shared instructional materials, joint supervision of graduation theses, and joint projects. They had also agreed to hold regular academic meetings between the two parties, with faculty members participating in workshops, research projects and academic conferences.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation from PSUT visited laboratories currently conducting research in Information Security and Big Data, and in Energy and Environment Engineering. They also took a tour of the School of Entrepreneurship at the Indian Institute of Technology.

At the end of the visit, the two parties agreed to keep open the channels of communication through mutual visits, in addition to continuing to exchange materials for academic programs, especially in emerging fields.
