PSUT takes seventh place in Qatar’s Fourth Arabic Language University Debating Tournament, 2017
The Debating Club from Princess Sumaya University for Technology took seventh place in Qatar’s Fourth Arabic Language University Debating Tournament, 2017, following impressive results in the qualifying rounds of the tournament. The tournament was contested by 466 teams from 87 Arab and international universities around the world. The PSUT Debating Club qualified to participate in the tournament in Qatar after winning first place against 16 other Jordanian universities at Jordan’s second debating tournament which was held in March 2017.
The President of the University, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refa'i, expressed his thanks to the members of the Debating Club and everyone at the Deanship of Student Affairs who played a role in this outstanding achievement.
Prof. Al-Refa'i expressed his pride in the successive achievements of the University’s students in a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities and their efforts to reach the top-ranking positions in various local and international forums. The University focuses on extracurricular activities by supporting student clubs on campus, which reflects the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Board of Trustees at the University, to help students to hone their skills, expand their knowledge, and encourage them toward innovative thinking. In this way, we can bring about a young generation that is socially aware, knows what it wants, and contributes to decision-making in community issues.
It is noteworthy that the team’s coach, student Noha Ghanaja, was chosen to be a member of the judges’ panel for the final debate, making her the youngest student to sit on the panel. In addition, debating team member, student Samer Murad, was named the best speaker among the debaters from Jordan, while another team member, "Abdul Rahman Al-Fatayani", took joint second place.
