This unit is responsible for developing the library's collection of print and non-print materials through purchase, donation, and exchange of publications. It exchanges publications, with various universities and academic and scientific institutions, follows up on purchases needed for the library (equipment and furniture), and assigns an acquisition number, indicative of total library holdings, to different library materials. It also controls the library budget and accuracy of spending.
Technical Services Unit
This unit carries out all technical processes related to the organization of library materials (print and non-print). It uses the International Standards for Bibliographic Description (ISBD) along with the Library of Congress Classification Schemes (LCCS) and The Anglo American Cataloguing Rules for Classification, Cataloguing and Indexing (AACR). This unit is also responsible for data entry of bibliographic information of all catalogued and classified items, using the library automated system. It also prepares and adds barcodes and book labels to all processed materials.
User Services Unit
This unit provides various services to library users, including lending and recalls of materials, assisting users in retrieving information by using the library online catalogue and finding its place on shelves, carrying out training sessions for new students and others on how to find needed information and how to use the library, arranging book reserves, answering reference questions and keeping book shelves in order. This unit also supervises the work of the library’s student help.
Periodicals Services Unit
This unit obtains requested and approved periodicals according to the needs of academic staff and students. The periodicals requested by the academic staff are complementary to the books collection and adhere to the requirements of Higher Education Council in regards to number of periodicals per faculty and specialization. It registers all received issues on the library’s automated system, follows up on missing issues, and provides both "Awareness of Current Periodicals" and "Indexing" services for easy retrieval of articles.
Electronic Library Unit
The library is located at the branch library, on RSS premises. It is equipped with 16 computers, a printer and a copier and free internet service. The library provides the following services to its users: Introducing available E-resources and databases (10 databases in addition to various free online resources), instruction sessions on the effective use of these resources for study and research, printing and copying services, free e-mail and internet search, and remote access to these services through VPN or usernames and passwords.
