The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, affirmed that PSUT is striving to move to the next stage of competition at the international level, obtaining high positions in international university rankings, creating a Center of Excellence in Cyber Security, launching PhD programs in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration, and other programs taught "remotely" at the undergraduate and Master's degrees.The University is also working on intensifying partnerships with the private sector, raising the proportion of postgraduate students, and strengthening the foundations of scientific research.
During a special meeting, which brought him together with a group of opinion leaders, writers and media professionals, PSUT’s president added that these aspirations are in line with the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University's Board of Trustees, in a way that meets the needs of society and is consistent with achieving comprehensive national development.
Al-Refai pointed out that all of PSUT’s Schools have obtained American accreditations from ABET and AACSB. The University also won second and third places in the Crown Prince Award for Best Government Service Application for 2020 and, according to the QS World Rankings 2020, was ranked first in Jordan and sixteenth in the Arab region regarding the ratio of the number of published scientific research works compared to the number of faculty members.
The President mentioned that this year, a team of PSUT students won first place among the Arab universities, and fourth and sixth in the world against a field of 4,100 teams in the IEEE-Xtreme Competition, for the fifth consecutive year. The University also won third place in the world at the Microsoft Imagine Cup in 2011. He stressed that the labor market is witnessing great competition for PSUT graduates, and that the percentage of those who find employment in the first six months of their graduation stands at almost 90%.
Al-Refai went on to explain that, as part of an initiative put forward by the Crown Prince Foundation, 4 PSUT students were selected to be among 12 Jordanian students to train at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) laboratories, while two students underwent training at the world-leading aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
During the meeting, an in-depth discussion was held about the challenges facing the University, its aspirations compatible with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the role it plays as an academic institution with a global vision, offering specializations needed by the new market, its interest in forming partnerships with the public and private sectors, and the development of its work methodology, especially in the aftermath of the global Coronavirus crisis.
PSUT has ranked first at the general level for six consecutive years in the results of the University Proficiency Exam, which is administered by the Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC) for Jordanian university students. Furthermore, 7 PSUT students were chosen by the Japanese company Toshiba to undergo training. The University has developed high quality programs, unique within Jordan, such as e-Marketing and Social Media, Computer Graphics and Animation, Network and Information Security Engineering, Electrical Power and Energy Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security at the undergraduate level. Master's programs include Data Science, Information Security and Digital Criminology, Enterprise Systems Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Business Analysis, Engineering Management, and Accounting, run jointly with the University of Arizona, USA, and Intelligent Systems and Computer Engineering. PSUT also boasts a PhD program in Computer Science. Outstanding students have won an array of international and local awards in various academic, cultural and sports forums.
