PSUT honors Debate and Thought Company for receiving international “Pioneers Award”

The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, honored the Debate and Thought Company for its achievement of receiving the “Pioneers Award” for Debating, during the Sixth International University Debating Championship, which was recently organized by Ibn Khaldun University in Turkey.


The award, presented by the QatarDebate Center, comes in recognition of the most influential and accomplished institutions and initiatives in this field, and as a stimulus to the art of debates, to take its role in enriching the culture of dialogue among young people.


He also honored PSUT's debate team for taking a top position in the championship, and the two students Hind Nasser and Hamza Daoud, who both received the title of "Best Speaker" in the competition debates.


During his meeting with the members of the company’s management, Prof. Al-Refai said that the university seeks to help students to develop a well-rounded personality in all academic, cultural and intellectual aspects. He praised the company and its members, and their role in spreading and rooting the art of debates in Jordanian universities and youth institutions. He emphasized that the university is ready to provide all types of support to the institution and its activities to move forward in its creative journey.


PSUT’s Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, indicated that the university team, which included students Yahya Abido, Hamza Daoud, Rola Al-Ahmad, and Hind Al-Nasser, underwent intensive training. Dr. Salem also praised the role of the Debate and Thought Company in supporting the team and honing its skills.


The president of the company, Abdul Rahman Al-Fatiani, said that the university was the company’s first incubator, and the starting point of its story towards local and global recognition. He pointed out that most of its members are PSUT students and graduates, and called for more attention to be paid to the art of debating and work to be done to motivate and strengthen it.


It is worth noting that a PSUT team won first place in the world in the Fifth International Debating Championship, held in Qatar in 2019, and was crowned the champion of the Asian Debating Championship, which was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, for two consecutive years, 2020 and 2021.
