The fourth workshop of the Water Sector Innovation Project “WaSec” was recently held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The workshop, which was held under the title “Radioactive isotopes and their role in tracking water resources”, was supported by the European Union “Erasmus” project, and saw the participation of representatives from Jordanian and Palestinian ministries, universities and institutions concerned with water issues and treatment, along with all project member states.

In the opening speech of the workshop, the PSUT’s President, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, praised the EU projects and their outputs on the higher education system at the local and international levels, calling upon all parties to exert their energies in supporting and strengthening the water sector in the participating countries.

The project coordinator at PSUT, Prof. Walid Salameh, stressed the importance of these projects, especially in countries that suffer from severe water scarcity and lack of resources. He pointed out that the university’s partnership in the project serves to embody the meanings of real research partnership between the university and the Royal Scientific Society.

During the workshop, Dr. Saed Al-Khayat from Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie, which is supervising the project, and Dr. Amer Marei from Al-Quds University, gave technical explanations on the use of stable and radioactive isotopes to track the source of water.

The "WaSec" project aims to enhance water security and social and economic development in the eastern Mediterranean, in light of the emerging climate changes.
