PSUT launches its Seventh Culture Week

The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, inaugurated the activities of its Seventh Culture Week, an annual event organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs. In attendance were the University’s two vice presidents, the deans of the Schools, and the Director General of the National Library, Dr. Nidal Al-Ayasra.

The three-day event includes the participation and exhibits from the Ministry of Culture, the National Library, the Comprehensive Book Fair, UBCC Book House, Irbid as the capital of Arab culture, the Jordan Museum, the Literary Creativity and Revival of Arab Heritage Club, the Intellect and Debating Society (IDS), and the House of Culture and Arts.

A special celebration was also held to commemorate the poet Jeryes Samawi, in the presence of a number of his family and loved ones, during which a short film, made by PSUT students about his life, was shown. There were some readings from his poems, and his family were presented with the university shield.

Prof. Al-Refai praised the students' creativity in the cultural and artistic fields, highlighting the fact that PSUT stands for an integrated student life, and for this reason it strives to provide and facilitate everything possible to enrich and hone the students' talents.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, stated that the Culture Week is held in accordance with PSUT’s vision of highlighting cultural aspects, activating the role of student clubs, and extending bridges of cooperation and partnership with the cultural sectors.

The activities of the first day included participation from the Noon Cultural Club, the Antares Astronomy Club, and the Apollo Art Club. There were poetry readings and exhibitions of artwork, handicrafts, and works of Arabic calligraphy. Author Batoul Al-Ajlouni took part in a book-signing, and a drawing workshop was held by student Bayan Zureikat.

The following two days will see theatrical and cinematic performances, as well as competitions in story, poetry, thought, and essay writing.
