The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, opened the activities of the Meeting for Talent and Innovation, held by the Talented Students Office at the Deanship of Admissions and Registration in cooperation with the Arab Council for the Gifted and Talented. The event was held via visual communication technology and was attended by the vice presidents and deans of the Schools, and a group of innovative students and the faculty members that supervise their activities.
The Meeting, with activities extending until the 31st of March, aims to introduce and update the talent and innovation map for PSUT students, allowing them to take a look at the most important theoretical and practical developments for their care, and to facilitate the exchange of expertise among the participants in a way that contributes to developing the educational environment and improving its outputs.
Al-Refai affirmed that he takes great care to support creative students with all possible assistance, stressing that PSUT seeks, under the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of its Board of Trustees, to provide the most fertile environments for the development and enrichment of talents. The University recognizes and appreciates the efforts of those students who win local and international awards which serves to promote PSUT’s good reputation.
The Chairman of the Council, Dr. Atef Kanaan, expressed his pride in PSUT and its innovative students, saying, "We have come to know your university for its excellence and innovation in the Kingdom and the Arab world, thanks to the results and distinction it achieves in the field of academic work, scientific activities, and local, regional and international competitions."
The Dean of Admissions and Registration, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Al-Saidi, stated that the Meeting is full of creative energies among its participants, adding that he was looking forward to achieving its goals in a way that contributes to improving the university environment.
After honoring the creative students, the President and the attendees viewed a photo gallery documenting all the awards, competitions and innovations presented by the students in the previous two years.
The Meeting’s activities for the following days include an introductory broadcast about competitions that students can participate in at both the local and international level. Also included in the schedule are workshops on talent development, and a number of students’ stories of success and excellence.
The Arab Council for the Gifted and Talented is an Arab academic and professional body concerned with enriching and developing everything related to the field of talent. Established in 1996, the Council works to strengthen the academic and educational links between its membership of 18 Arab countries.
Notably, PSUT students won the second and third prizes in the Crown Prince Award for the Best Government Service Application, first place in the world in the annual IEEEXtreme Programming Competition, and first place in the Huawei Innovation Competition. The University also took first place in the Fifth International Universities Debating Championship held in Doha the year before last, as well as first place in the First Asian Debating Championship in October 2019. PSUT students won an array of local and international awards in 2020.
