A team from Princess Sumaya University for Technology has qualified to participate in the International Debating Championship, which will be held in the State of Qatar. The team made it through to the finals after participating in the National Debating Championship, organized by the Debate Foundation in cooperation with Al Hussein Technical University, with the participation of 26 universities.
The heats of the competition saw various topics debated according to the approved international model of debates, in an atmosphere that reinforces the values of positive difference and constructive dialogue, enabling participants to hone their skills in analysis, critical thinking, and develop their rhetorical and linguistic abilities.
The winning team, which ranked first in the preliminary rounds after winning five consecutive debates, consisted of students, Rola Al-Ahmad, Hind Nasser, Hamza Daoud, and Dania Abul-Hassan, who trained under the supervision of Dr. Ramzy Radaideh.
PSUT’s President, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, congratulated the winners and their supervisor, stressing the importance of these activities in enriching the student’s personality. He added that the University, under the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of its Board of Trustees, spares no effort to provide a well-rounded university life for its students.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, stated that the Debate Club represents a success story for the University and that the deanship seeks to promote its extracurricular activities through a wide network of diverse clubs that take into account students’ hobbies and needs.
.PSUT won first place in the world in the Fifth International Debating Championship, held in Qatar in 2019, and was crowned the champion of the Asian Debating Championship, which was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, for two consecutive years
