Princess Sumaya University for Technology Organizes its Sixth National Conference “Aligning Study Programs with Labor Market Needs”

Organized by the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, the Sixth National Conference on “Aligning Study Programs with Labor Market Needs” was inaugurated by Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, the President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The conference brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as a number of the university graduates who have either established their own companies or assumed key administrative roles in diverse sectors.

Prof. Abu Elhaija, the President of the University, accompanied by Prof. Bassam Hammo, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, and several school deans, reviewed the designated pavilions for conference participants. During the opening ceremony, Prof. Abdel Ghafoor Al Saidi, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, delivered a speech emphasizing the university's unwavering commitment in equipping graduates with the academic and practical qualifications necessary to enter the labor market. He also commended the university's remarkable achievement as it secured the 73rd position globally and first institution locally in terms of employment rates, according to the international QS classification.

This conference acts as a platform, fostering a connection between the university and its labor market partners. Its primary objective is to evaluate and improve the study programs offered by the university to ensure their alignment with the demands of the local and global labor markets. The university prioritizes the annual organization of this conference, as it showcases the vibrant involvement of its graduates, entrepreneurs, and individuals with expertise in labor market.

Susan Al Shatti, representing the Housing Bank, the platinum sponsor of the conference, expressed her joy at this participation, which showcases the university's robust collaboration with local labor market institutions. She commended the university for organizing the conference, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and employment sectors, as well as the transition from traditional to applied education. Susan Al Shatti also highlighted the vital need of aligning educational outcomes with labor market needs to foster sustainable development and create job opportunities. She added, these constructive meetings facilitate the exchange of ideas and tools to enhance the quality of education.

Hussam Hammo, an alumnus of the university and the CEO and founder of Tamatem, the premier mobile gaming publisher in the Middle East and North Africa, shared his inspiring success story. He discussed how his career took off after graduating and the valuable ideas he turned into projects through collaboration with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at the university. In his speech, he expressed pride in being a graduate of this esteemed institution and urged attending students to invest their time in studying and developing their skills to tackle the challenges of the job market. It is noteworthy that Tamatem, established in 2013, ranks first in publishing Arabic mobile games in the region. It has published over 50 games with more than 150 million downloads and 7 million active monthly users.

The conference hosted a dialogue session led by Dr. Adiy Tweissi, the Director of the e-Learning Center, involving contributions from students and the audience. The session focused on the significance of aligning academic programs with the evolving needs of the job market, particularly in the technology and entrepreneurship fields.

At the end of the conference, Prof. Abu Elhaija, the University President, honored PSUT entrepreneurial alumnus who have established their own companies or who have assumed leadership positions in reputable companies in the labor market.
