Debate Club

PSUT's Debate Club, which was founded in late 2016, is a prominent project specialized in the field of debating and awareness-building in Jordan and the Arab world. Since its establishment, the club, with its distinguished training programs and extensive local and international participation, has had a significant impact in shaping a distinct positive image of the university and Jordan in various global and regional forums.

The club’s activities and achievements:

  • The Debate and Thought Club at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) won the second place in the 2nd Asian Arabic Debating Championship 2023, in the competition that was held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, with the participation of 42 teams representing 42 universities from different Asian countries. The competition was organized by Qatar Debate Center, and sponsored by His Highness Fahr bin Fatik Al Said.

    The Arab teams of non-native speakers and the Arabic-speaking teams competed in several rounds. The final round was between the Texas E&M University-Qatar team and Princess Sumaya University for Technology team which qualified after defeating the Carnegie Mellon University-Qatar team.

    The winning team included PSUT students Hamza Daoud, Hind Nasser, Sana Murad, and Rola Al-Ahmad who won the sixth best speaker in the championship.

  •  Participation in a debate held via Zoom organized by the ‘Haqiq Initiative’ of the Crown Prince Foundation. The debate was entitled “The Arabic Language”, and held in cooperation with the Dhad initiative, with the aim of enhancing the status of the Arabic language and promoting its importance by keeping pace with the digital age and developing future technologies.
  • Participation in the national championship, organized by the National Institute for Security Studies under the title of Security Debates, which aims to enhance and build the leadership capabilities of the young generation.
  • Providing training to prepare for participation in the national championship, organized by the National Institute for Security Studies under the title of Security Debates, which aims to enhance and build the leadership capabilities of the young generation.
  • 30/10/2020 - Club members received training in the basics of the art of debating.
  • Training was given by PSUT’s Debate Club student members to prepare for participation in the national championship, organized by the National Institute for Security Studies under the title of Security Debates, which aims to enhance and build the leadership capabilities of the young generation.
  • 10/12/2020 - Participation in the demonstration debates, which were held at the Public Security Directorate in front of a wide audience of public security officers. PSUT student Abdul Rahman Al-Fatiani gave a full explanation about the University’s club and the model used in training and championships. The debate topic revolved around nuclear energy as opposed to renewable energy and which is better for Jordan, under the motion of:

‘This council believes that the nuclear energy option is better than the renewable energy option in Jordan.’

  • December 2021- The club participated in the National Debating Championship organized by the Intellect and Debating Society, in cooperation with Al-Hussein Technical University, with the participation of 26 universities. The PSUT team qualified to participate in the International Debating Championship, which will be held in Qatar in June 2022.
  • Notably, PSUT won first place in the world in the 5th International Universities Debating Championship, held in Qatar in 2019, and was crowned the champion of the Asian Debating Championship, which was held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, for two consecutive years.
  • PSUT student Rola Al-Ahmad won the title of Best Speaker in the 1st National University Debating Championship out of nearly 200 debaters.
  • PSUT student Hind Nasser won the title of the Second Best Speaker in the 1st National University Debating Championship out of nearly 200 debaters.
