Global Entrepreneurship Week

The Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at Princess Sumaya University for Technology announced the launch of the 13th Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021 in Jordan, under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees. The Week is organized through a strategic partnership with Zain Jordan via its Innovation Campus (ZINC), with the participation of 83 partners. The activities will include nearly 400 events that will be held in Amman and the governorates. Some will be face-to-face events, while others will be held via video communication technology.

 The Week’s activities, which will continue until the 14th of this month, focus on several axes, most notably education and its role in promoting the spirit of leadership and innovation, the axis of politics and the role of the government in the prosperity of entrepreneurship, and the obstacles faced by entrepreneurs from disadvantaged population groups. It will also include a proposal for solutions through success stories, coaching and mentorship.

In a press conference held at ZINC at the King Hussein Business Park, the President of PSUT, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, praised the Center’s efforts and perseverance in establishing this important global event, through many years of continuous effort. He also praised the strategic partnership with Zain, and its great role in supporting the entrepreneurship sector and entrepreneurs.

Al-Refai added that PSUT, through the Center, is keen, under the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, to stimulate and develop creativity and innovation among Jordanians, and is working to open up new opportunities for youth and promote a culture of entrepreneurship to achieve national sustainable development.

The Director of QRCE, Mohammad Obaidat, said that Entrepreneurship Week is one of the Center’s important programs, and represents a national celebration of the achievements of the Jordanian entrepreneurship sector. He stated that the Center is proud to present this platform to all entrepreneurship institutions each year, to celebrate their achievements and preview upcoming projects and the opportunities they offer to Jordanian entrepreneurs.

Obeidat also indicated that this week's activities represent an opportunity for activists in the field of entrepreneurship to discuss the most important challenges and try to find mechanisms to improve the country’s entrepreneurial environment.

The Executive Director of the Department of Media, Communication, Innovation and Sustainability Management at Zain Jordan, Tariq Al-Bitar said: “This partnership with the Center comes to launch the activities of this Week in conjunction with the company’s celebration of the seventh anniversary of the establishment of its innovation platform (ZINC).” He stressed its enthusiasm over those years to hold many events to celebrate Jordanian innovators and entrepreneurs in its 8 branches throughout the Kingdom.

Al-Bitar also stressed the company’s belief in the importance of supporting the entrepreneurship sector and working to develop it, and its responsibility towards entrepreneurs and youth and their creativity, given the growing importance of this sector and its great role in creating new job opportunities and supporting the national economy by investing in start-up companies and young Jordanian minds and the innovative ideas they produce at the regional and global levels.

Entrepreneurship Week, supported by the Kauffman Foundation in the USA, is the largest global event to celebrate innovators and job creators who launch startups to bring their ideas to life, drive economic growth and increase the standard of living in societies. It organizes thousands of events and competitions all over the world with the aim of inspiring millions to engage in entrepreneurial activity and network potential collaborators, mentors and investors. The week, in its 14th edition, is observed by 200 countries and 10 million people, through more than 40 thousand activities.
