From the halls of Princess Sumaya University for Technology… to the forefront of the global tech industry.

A historic milestone for PSUT, and one of the most memorable highlights of the 32nd Commencement Ceremony.

For the first time in its history, the Council of Deans at Princess Sumaya University for Technology has awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Computer Science to alumnus Amjad Masad, Founder and CEO of Replit. This honor recognizes an extraordinary journey: one that grew from a seat in a PSUT classroom to building and leading a global leader in software engineering and artificial intelligence.

Amjad graduated from PSUT with a degree in Computer Science in 2010. Armed with knowledge, ambition, and a vision, he set out from Jordan to carve his path in the global tech sector. Today, he stands as a testament to what tech education can achieve when paired with drive, perseverance, and the ability to turn knowledge into world-shaping innovation.

In 2016, Amjad founded Replit, guiding it to become a premier global platform for coding and AI, reaching a valuation of $1.3 billion, a milestone reflecting the company's remarkable growth and worldwide impact.

During her address at the graduation ceremony, HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, highlighted Amjad’s journey as an inspiration for the graduating class, stating:

"Others before you have walked this exact path. Alumni from this very university sat where you are sitting today, grew their ideas, and launched enterprises that reached the world. Among them is our own Amjad Masad, a true model of ambition and perseverance who today leads one of the world's pioneering tech companies. His story, and the stories of his peers, remain living proof that the road from this campus can lead anywhere in the world. Do not set small ambitions for yourselves, and do not wait for the future to arrive; build it."

This recognition reflects Princess Sumaya’s long-standing vision and unwavering support for the university’s students and alumni, empowering them to push beyond campus boundaries and take their innovations to the world stage.

The landmark announcement took place during the closing ceremony of the 32nd graduating class. As Amjad was unable to attend due to urgent work commitments, Her Royal Highness presented an honorary shield to his father, Eng. Fawzi Masad. A special ceremony will be held to officially confer the Honorary Doctorate upon Amjad’s return to Jordan.

This honor holds deep significance for PSUT. It is not just a celebration of international success, but a tribute to a journey that started right here (a student who graduated, reached the world, and whose name returns to become the first recipient of an honorary doctorate in the university's history).

Earlier this year, Amjad was also awarded the King Abdullah II Order of Distinction (Second Class) in recognition of his entrepreneurial leadership and contributions to technology and AI.

It all started at PSUT, and its impact reached the world.
