Princess Sumaya University for Technology and Royal Jordanian Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Collaboration

HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Royal Jordanian’s Vice Chairman and CEO, Eng. Samer Majali, to collaborate on scientific research, development, and practical projects.

Signed in the presence of University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, the agreement aims to strengthen partnerships between academia and the private sector, support student training programs, and facilitate the exchange of expertise in aviation cybersecurity, helping to equip future generations with the skills to tackle emerging challenges.

The signing was attended by representatives from both sides, including Captain Zaid Kalbouneh, General Manager of Jordanian Airline Training and Simulation (JATS); Eng. Ashraf Ayoub, Head of IT and Cybersecurity at Royal Jordanian; and several university officials, including Prof. Abdul Ghafoor Saidi, Dr. Firas Al-Ghanem, Dr. Osama Abu Sharkh, and Dr. Sufyan Majali.

During the signing ceremony, Her Highness emphasized that this partnership reflects a strategic vision to strengthen ties between academia and the business sector, helping to prepare skilled graduates capable of tackling future challenges through science and innovation.

She noted that this collaboration sets an example in providing high-quality training opportunities that enhance graduates’ competitiveness and enrich their education with practical experience, keeping pace with global and local advancements.

Her Highness highlighted that the university is the academic division of the Royal Scientific Society, which is committed to supporting students, faculty, and researchers by providing access to its laboratories, research centers, and the iPARK business incubator, alongside the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, to advance science and education within El Hassan Science City.

Princess Sumaya reaffirmed the university’s dedication to providing a modern learning environment that aligns with the latest developments, equipping students with exceptional training and research opportunities, which enhance their skills, prepare them for top job prospects, and empower them to contribute to local and global communities in innovative ways that support educational advancement.

Eng. Majali expressed his pleasure at HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan’s visit to Royal Jordanian and the partnership with Princess Sumaya University for Technology, emphasizing the company’s commitment to developing young talent. He highlighted the importance of offering students hands-on training at JATS to connect education with the aviation sector, particularly in information technology, while also providing specialized training programs that create real employment opportunities.

He stressed Royal Jordanian’s strong focus on information technology and cybersecurity, aiming to build an integrated cybersecurity system and ensure a secure, sustainable digital environment. He also underscored the airline’s collaboration with the university in these and other fields of mutual interest.

Majali noted that Royal Jordanian is implementing a comprehensive strategy to modernize its fleet, expanding to 41 new aircraft and increasing its network to 60 destinations worldwide. He highlighted the airline’s efforts to promote Jordan as a key tourist destination and strengthen its role as a regional hub.

It is noteworthy that Royal Jordanian fully owns the Jordanian Airline Training and Simulation (JATS), headquartered at Queen Alia International Airport. JATS specializes in training airline crews, including pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance engineers, serving both Royal Jordanian and other airlines in the region. Over the years, it has trained 100,000 professionals.

This partnership reflects the university’s commitment to providing a modern educational environment that keeps pace with scientific and technological advancements.
