The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, announced the launch of the first phase of the “Smart Knowledge Ecosystem” (PSUT AI Knowledge Base), making PSUT the first Jordanian university to integrate artificial intelligence models into its digital ecosystem, thereby setting new standards in the digital knowledge industry.
This achievement represents an unprecedented step in higher education in Jordan. In its first phase, the smart ecosystem relies on an open large language model (Open LLM) that is operated and deployed entirely in-house, within the university campus, under the direct supervision of specialized faculty members and students. This approach ensures the protection of academic data, the privacy of educational content, and the enhancement of PSUT's digital sovereignty in the use of artificial intelligence technologies, away from data processing on external servers.
PSUT President, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, emphasized that the launch of this phase reflects the university’s commitment to adopting the latest global technologies and transforming research ideas into practical, applied solutions.
Prof. Abu Elhaija added: “We will be pioneers in implementing and developing the ‘Smart Knowledge Ecosystem’ at the university through successive phases across all academic and administrative domains. This represents a real model for technology localization and for integrating education with artificial intelligence to improve the quality of both academic achievement and administrative performance.”
She further explained that the “Smart Knowledge Ecosystem” will be implemented in three phases:
Phase One (current): Focuses on developing the e-learning system and empowering students with artificial intelligence tools to enhance academic achievement and deepen their understanding of academic content.
Phase Two: Will include admission and registration services, providing instant responses to students’ inquiries and facilitating academic administrative processes.
Phase Three: Will cover human resources and administrative services, contributing to improved internal institutional efficiency and the creation of a smart work environment that supports data-driven decision-making.
This smart ecosystem is part of a series of strategic projects aimed at developing the university’s digital environment and consolidating its position as a regional hub for innovation. The statement concluded by reaffirming PSUT's commitment to investing in responsible technological solutions and encouraging the ethical use of artificial intelligence in support of sustainable development goals and national technological leadership.
