The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, and the Mayor of Amman, Dr. Yousef Al Shawarbeh, have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation between the municipality and the university in scientific research, training, consultation, and the exchange of academic experience.
According to the memorandum, specialized scientific and engineering studies will be conducted through graduation projects, and research papers on topics related to the challenges facing the Amman municipality. This includes exchanging expertise, providing consultations, and collaborating on joint projects and sustainability programs. Additionally, specialized academic and professional training will be provided for the municipality's employees in creativity, innovation, and artificial intelligence, as well as training opportunities for university students within the various specialized departments of the Amman municipality.
Dr. Al Shawarbeh expressed his pride in Princess Sumaya University for Technology, highlighting that this cooperation aims to enhance the efficiency and performance of the Amman municipality’s employees and raise community awareness about sustainable development. He emphasized that significant progress can only be achieved through genuine partnerships between institutions across all sectors.
The President of the University, Prof. Abu Elhaija, stated that the memorandum aligns with the university’s vision of enhancing community cooperation, exchanging experiences with national institutions, and serving the local community through scientific research and joint projects. This initiative follows the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, to contribute to technological innovations and build successful career paths aligned with the university’s academic programs. Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized the importance of such partnerships in expanding opportunities for scientific research, and reiterated the university’s commitment to providing academic and technical support to help the municipality achieve its development goals.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Amman's Deputy Mayor, Mohammed Al-Qaisi; City Manager, Ahmed Al-Malkawi; The University Vice President, Prof. Bassam Hammo; and members of the University's Council of Deans.
