Yahya Obeido, a Computer Engineering student from King Abdullah II School of Engineering at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, clinched third place globally in the IEEE R8 Entrepreneurship Final Pitch. This achievement was part of the Jordanian team PNIN Tech, competing at the IEEE SYP Congress 2024 in Grenoble, France.
The competition aims to support and encourage entrepreneurial ideas. Yahya Obeido's winning concept featured a medical device designed to treat various motor impairments. This innovative idea was presented as part of a business plan aimed at providing valuable health services to the community.
Obeido previously secured first place locally among Jordanian universities in the IEEE Pitchinno Competition and advanced to the final round of the IEEE R8 Entrepreneurship competition. His team was one of the top four regional teams in the online qualifying round and advanced to the final stage, where they competed against teams from Jordan, Egypt, Italy, and Britain.
Princess Sumaya University for Technology President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija said that this win highlights the exceptional skills and deep knowledge of the university's students in presenting entrepreneurial ideas on a global stage. It also underscores the university's commitment to fostering innovation and creativity across various disciplines.
Prof. Abu Elhaija added that this achievement positions the university as a leading institution and aligns with HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan’s vision of preparing a new generation of highly skilled professionals in modern scientific fields, thereby enhancing the quality of life in various aspects of community life.
Dr. Osama Abu Sharkh, Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, praised the achievement and highlighted the importance of participating various competitions. He noted that such experiences are crucial for enhancing students' skills and providing opportunities to showcase their excellence.
Prof. Dr. Fadi Shahrouri, Academic Supervisor of the IEEE Club, emphasized that the club aims to raise awareness of IEEE's role and help students develop specialized skills in technology and related research. He noted the club’s aim to balance academic and practical experience and to present innovative ideas that align with current engineering job market demands.
