Princess Sumaya University of Technology's team clinched the title of the Arab AI Olympiad by securing first place and earning the highest total score among participating universities. The tournament, organized by the STEAM Center and the Arab Robotics and AI Association, saw over 350 students from 60 universities and schools across the Arab world, including Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Libya, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Algeria, Lebanon, and Libya.
The Olympiad featured five competitions, serving as a platform for Arab youth of all ages in Programming, Mathematics and Algorithms, Computer Vision, Cybersecurity, and Embedded Systems.
The winning team excelled across all five categories: Aya Al Tal secured first place in Mathematics and Algorithms marathon, Mohannad Al-Hamoud claimed first in the Programming marathon, Hamza Noor achieved first in the Cybersecurity marathon, Raghad Judeh, Mira Al-Nabulsi, and Nadine Habboub took second place in the Computer Vision Practical Project, and Omar Al-Shunnar and Mahmoud Sharbaj secured third place in the Embedded Systems Practical Project. The team was under the supervision of Engineer Ahmed Awwad and with collaborative support from professors and engineers from King Hussein School of Computing Sciences and King Abdullah II School of Engineering.
University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija congratulated the winning team and their supervisor, commending their outstanding success. She expressed pride in the dedication of the university's students and supervisors to uphold its excellence, acknowledging the unwavering support from HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, in empowering students to pursue their goals of creativity and excellence.
Abu Elhaija emphasized the university's commitment to providing a nurturing educational environment that integrates academic and extracurricular activities. She highlighted the university's dedication to fostering students' capabilities and competence, ensuring their sustained success in academic and professional endeavors, and delivering high-quality education aligned with students' aspirations and global advancements.
Dr. Firas Al-Ghanem, Dean of King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, underscored the school's strategic vision in curriculum development and educational programs. He emphasized the school's focus on promoting active learning, fostering creative thinking, and equipping students with the skills and knowledge essential to navigate modern technological advancements in computing.
