Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, launched the TEDxPSUT Live conference, streaming directly from the global TED conference in Canada, themed “The Brave and the Brilliant.” This marks PSUT as the first university in the Middle East licensed to broadcast the renowned TED talks.
The conference covered a range of topics including artificial intelligence, contemporary medicine, automation, advanced information technology, mechanics, psychology, business, women’s empowerment, and global awareness. Its goal was to broaden access to knowledge, foster global dialogue, and share ideas through short, inspiring talks.
University President Prof. Abu ElhHaija expressed pride in hosting this event organized by PSUT's students and supervised by the Deanship of Student Affairs. Held on the 40th anniversary of the global TED organization, it underscores PSUT's commitment to internationalism and highlights its reputation as a leading institution in the region.
Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized the university's dedication, since its establishment, to fulfilling the vision of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees. PSUT aims to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world by embracing artificial intelligence, innovation, and entrepreneurial ideas.
Student Tareq Sarayji, Co-organizer of the event, expressed gratitude to Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, the university administration, and the Dean of Student Affairs. He thanked them for believing in the capabilities of university students and for supporting the TEDxPSUT Live event, which became the first of its kind in Jordan and the region. The event streamed live from Canada, featuring talks by international speakers at the TED Global Conference 2024.
The audience listened to various entrepreneurs and researchers, including the CEOs of Google DeepMind and Microsoft AI, the founder of GitHub, and several other influential figures from around the world.
During the closing session, HE Marwan Juma, Vice Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, shared his vision for the future of artificial intelligence. His insightful remarks sparked interaction and discussion among students and attendees, who shared their opinions, concerns, and aspirations for this important field.
The conference was attended by prominent figures including HE Marwan Juma, Vice Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, HE Mohammad Karki, Secretary General of the Royal Court, HE Prof. Nathir Obeidat, President of the University of Jordan, Vice President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Bassam Hammo, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, as well as members of the University’s Council of Deans, and individuals interested from both governmental and community institutions.
