The cybersecurity team at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) won the first place at the level of the Middle East, Europe and Africa in a competition for detection intrusion held by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), which was organized by the university’s branch in Dubai. This year, the Jordanian teams entered the competition from Al-Ahliyya Amman University venue.
This victory qualified PSUT for the finals at RIT’’s headquarters in the United States of America, early next year 2023.
PSUT’s team consisted of the following students: Ahmed Al-Jundi, Hamza Sahat, Omar Hamada, Mustafa Al-Shawa, Sami Iyad, and team leader Nizar Al-Daradkeh, with the support of Amer Jarrar (a student). Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, Dean of King Hussein School for Computing Sciences, supervised the team while Dr. Muhammad Ababneh, from the Cybersecurity Department, trained it. In second place came the American University of Sharjah and RIT-Dubai in the third.
According to a press release on Tuesday October 24, 2022, HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, congratulated the winning students and their supervisors, expressing her pride in this achievement which reflects the university’s excellence and leadership at the local and regional levels. The princess added that this win also reflects the efficiency of PSUT’s programs that refine students’ scientific and practical skills and stimulate competition and teamwork.
On her part, the Acting President of the University, Dr. Wejdan Abu ElHaija emphasized that the university highly supports students to achieve excellence through active participation in local and international competitions in line with the Cybersecurity major that PSUT offers. The university also enhances other disciplines related to cybersecurity to provide students with skills and experiences that open the doors of the labor market wide for them after graduation.
