Princess Sumaya Leads PSUT’s 32nd Graduation while Honouring Alumnus and Founder of Replit
PSUT alumnus Amjad Masad, founder and CEO of software company Replit, has been awarded an honorary doctorate at the 32nd Annual Graduation Ceremony of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). In her address to graduates of 2026 and their guests, HRH Princess Sumaya, Chair of the Board of Trustees and Patron of the ceremony, said Masad’s journey was a shining example of what ambition and perseverance can achieve, adding that ambitions may be big or small, but they must be powered by the courage and applied knowledge that will help imagine and create the future.
The Honorary Doctorate was awarded by PSUT’s Council of Deans, in recognition of Masad’s contributions to technology and entrepreneurship. Masad graduated in Computer Science from PSUT in 2010 and went on to found Replit in 2016. By March this year the company was valued at $9 billion, highlighting the potential that can be unlocked when Jordanian talent, technological knowledge and entrepreneurial ambition come together.
HRH affirmed that our imagined future, powered by ambition, is at the heart of PSUT’s mission, reaching beyond education, and placing science, technology and innovation at the service of the nation. This investment in knowledge, she added, and in the Kingdom’s scientific and technological capabilities, is fundamental to national development.
Princess Sumaya’s message was particularly resonant as Jordan celebrates 80 years of independence. She noted that, while honouring this in the past may have meant celebrating sovereignty over the land, independence in today’s world must also mean sovereignty over knowledge: “We should be among those who create technology, rather than simply consume it, and among those who programme the future, rather than have the future programmed for them”.
HRH celebrated the historic role of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), PSUT’s parent institution, in advancing science, technology and knowledge in Jordan, since its foundation in 1970 by HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, under the royal decree of the late King Hussein. “The RSS was established from a conviction that science, technology and knowledge are essential to building Jordan and preparing it for the future” she added.
As she considered the PSUT graduates of 2026, HRH reaffirmed that “building Jordan means building its minds”, and that a university must anticipate the future, helping to create and deploy technology for the benefit of people and the nation. Integrating disciplines and perspectives is vital, she noted, while managing technological innovation that can reach markets and create sustainable value.
Ultimately, HRH said she believed that PSUT graduates should measure their success not simply by professional achievement, but by the positive impact they make on people and their country.
Professor Wijdan Abu Al-Haija, President of PSUT, joined HRH in congratulating the graduates of 2026, noting that the University’s 35-year journey had been shaped by a commitment to excellence and leadership, guided by the Princess’s vision and her emphasis on investing in people. She highlighted several recent milestones which reflect PSUT’s drive to remain at the forefront of technology and innovation, including EQUIS accreditation for the King Talal School of Business Technology, the integration of a Large Language Model into the University’s digital ecosystem as part of its Smart Knowledge System, the establishment of Defendexe, PSUT’S first cybersecurity spin-off, and the growing focus of postgraduate research on addressing national challenges. She stressed that PSUT strives strategically for quality, relevance and impact rather than mere volume of activities.
The celebrations were attended by HE Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Dr Azmi Mahafzah, and Dr Dhafer Al-Sarayrah, Chairman of the Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, along with members of PSUT’s Board of Trustees and academic community, and representatives of the University’s partners across industry, business, technology and education.
