Mar 6, 2024

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, the President of the University, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, inaugurated the activities of the TEDxPSUT 2024 conference at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, inspired by the renowned TED conference, and under the theme “Navigating Tomorrow's Realities.” The event saw wide participation from local and international universities, the Amman Baccalaureate School, and various speakers. Topics covered at the conference included psychology and mental health, future technology and genetic engineering, science fiction and crypto, the world of business and companies, women’s empowerment, future sports, motivation, and advanced information technology.

During the conference's opening ceremony, attended by the Vice President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Bassam Hammo, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, and several deans from the university's schools, Prof. Abu Elhaija, the President of the University, highlighted, “Today, we witness a gathering of distinguished Jordanian speakers and enthusiastic young minds, both sharing a passion for learning, development, and innovation.” This reflects HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan's vision of fostering creativity and excellence in various scientific and cultural fields among students and encouraging their active participation in initiatives and events promoting education and innovation in society.

Prof. Abu Elhaija highlighted the remarkable achievements of companies founded by our university graduates in the field of technology, both locally and globally. She encouraged conference attendees to emulate their success and make their own impact using the knowledge and skills gained during their studies. She emphasized that solutions to future challenges will emerge from the innovative thinking of young minds, addressing them as future leaders unbound by conventional ideas.

Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized that innovation and solutions arise from collaboration across interdisciplinary fields rather than isolation. The university prioritizes empowering students, exposing them to new ideas, and offering opportunities for global thinking. By encouraging teamwork and providing platforms for research, analysis, and problem-solving, students can develop sustainable innovations with impacts on their communities and beyond.

Prof. Abu Elhaija also expressed her hope that TEDxPSUT will serve as a platform inspiring and educating the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs to address pressing global issues and devise innovative solutions. In particular, as we move through the digital and artificial intelligence era.

PSUT's Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Rami Salem, highlighted that the conference, organized by university students, aims to replicate the global TED experience. It focuses on enhancing students' knowledge, awareness, and discovery of “ideas worth spreading.”

Dr. Rami Salem highlighted that this year's conference marked a remarkable achievement, with Princess Sumaya University becoming the first institution locally and in the Middle East to secure an international license to host 200 male and female students.

The conference organizer, student Ahmad Al-Nazer, mentioned that due to the previous year's success and the continued support from the university administration, the conference secured two new international licenses: the TEDx Salon license and the TEDxLive license. Details about their upcoming events will be announced soon.

At the end of the conference, University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija honored both the participants and sponsors for their valuable contributions to the success of the event.
