Prof. Abu Elhaija said: “Today, as we mark the 58th anniversary of the immortal Battle of Karameh, we stand in reverence and honor. The Battle of Karameh represents an enduring model of resilience and national will, a luminous milestone in the history of our nation, recalling the highest forms of heroism and sacrifice demonstrated by the brave members of the Jordanian Armed Forces in defense of Jordan’s soil and sovereignty.” She added that this epic battle instilled in Jordanians the values of pride and dignity, reflecting national unity and the steadfastness of Jordanians around their homeland. She emphasized that faith in the nation and firm will have always been and remain the foundation for achieving victory and facing various challenges.
She also noted that commemorating Karameh renews in each generation the meanings of belonging and loyalty, strengthens the spirit of responsibility to continue the path of development and growth, and draws inspiration from the sacrifices of the righteous martyrs who gave their lives for the homeland. She stressed that preserving the legacy of fathers and ancestors and safeguarding the achievements of Karameh is a shared national responsibility, requiring diligent work and continuous accomplishments under the wise Hashemite leadership, so that Jordan remains a haven of security and stability and a steadfast model of dignity and a beacon of glory whose light never fades.
Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Abu Hashish, representing the Military Media Directorate, reviewed the events of the Battle of Karameh, which marked a pivotal moment in national history. The battle began at dawn on March 21, 1968, when the Jordanian Armed Forces courageously confronted the Israeli forces’ attempt to cross into Jordanian territory and launch aggression. The soldiers of the Jordanian army demonstrated the highest forms of heroism and sacrifice in defense of the homeland, forcing the invading forces to retreat from east of the Jordan River, ending the battle with a victory that strengthened Jordan’s standing and reinforced the values of resilience and national will.
Student Zaid Al-Faouri from PSUT Student Council said: “The best tribute to the heroism of Karameh is not merely in words, but through diligent work and striving for excellence, and by being a generation that carries the message of knowledge to serve our country and safeguard its future. Just as the heroes of Karameh created the nation’s glory on the battlefield, we create its glory in the fields of science and knowledge.”
It is noteworthy that PSUT is keen to commemorate national occasions that strengthen students’ sense of national identity, in line with the university’s mission to promote values of belonging and pride in Jordan’s glorious history, and in recognition of the sacrifices of the heroes of the Jordanian Arab Army and its immortal leadership.
