Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), patronized the University’s celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Independence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The ceremony coincided with a special occasion for PSUT community, marked by the birthday of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, in a moment that combined national pride with appreciation for leadership that continues to support the journey of knowledge, excellence, and innovation.
The ceremony was attended by PSUT President, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija; the Vice President of the Royal Scientific Society, Eng. Raafat Asi; representatives of participating entities; members of the University Council of Deans; members of the executive body of the Royal Scientific Society; as well as a number of academic and administrative staff members. A large gathering of students also attended the event, which was held in a national atmosphere reflecting pride in the homeland, the Hashemite leadership, and the ongoing journey of development and achievement.
In her speech during the ceremony, Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized that the 80th Independence Day represents a pivotal national milestone, through which we recall the journey of the modern Jordanian state and the achievements that have strengthened Jordan’s position as a country of wisdom, moderation, and stability.
She noted that independence was not merely a historical event, but the beginning of a continuous national journey built on faith, awareness, and action. She further affirmed that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership, has continued to consolidate its presence as a model of resilience and hope-building despite various challenges.
Prof. Abu Elhaija also stressed that PSUT continues to fulfill its national and academic mission of preparing a generation equipped with modern knowledge, capable of creativity, competitiveness, and serving the nation. She pointed out that, under the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, PSUT continues to promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and openness to global developments, while preserving national identity and Jordanian values, based on the belief that universities serve as incubators of awareness and platforms for shaping future leaders.
The ceremony included a performance by the Jordan Armed Forces Music Band, along with a variety of national and cultural segments. These included a poetry recital by PSUT students, a performance by the Kufr Jayez Folk Troupe, a presentation by PSUT Music Band, and a traditional dabke performance. The program also featured tours of national exhibitions, including the Independence Pavilion, the Royal Seating display, the Jordanian heritage pavilion, and a military vehicles exhibition. The event concluded with a national musical performance by artist Saad Abu Tayeh, celebrating this cherished national occasion.
At the end of the ceremony, PSUT President honored the participating and supporting entities that contributed to the success of the event. These included the Jordan Armed Forces Music Band, the Traffic Department, the Media and Community Police Department, the Jordan Traffic Institute, the Civil Defense Directorate, the Military Media Directorate, Department of the National Library, the University of Jordan Library, the Jordan Museum, the Royal Automobile Museum, the “Heritage is Our Identity” Association, the Erada Program, the Royal Botanic Garden, the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB), the Central Bank of Jordan, the Jordan Heritage Revival Company, the Kufr Jayez Folk Troupe, and the Royal Jordanian Heritage Directorate.
