Two teams from Princess Sumaya University for Technology secured first place in both the media and financial technology (FinTech) categories at the artificial intelligence hackathon competition organized by MENA DEVS at Luminus Technical University College (LTUC). The competition aimed to address key challenges in Jordan through innovative solutions utilizing artificial technology in sectors such as media, financial technology, healthcare, and software development. With 30 teams competing in the media category and 27 teams in the financial technology category from universities in Jordan and Palestine.
The winning team in the media category included students Mohammad Elian, Lunar Salameh, Tima Darwish, and Atta Al-Refai from the King Abdullah II School of Engineering at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, alongside student Yasmine Ramadan from Luminus Technical University College.
In the Financial Technology category, the winning team comprised Reem Jarrar and Mohammad Abu Arida from the Software Engineering Department at King Hussein School of Computing Sciences. Their project, the Behavioral Biometric Fraud Detection System, aimed to detect fraudulent activities.
The media category winners introduced the “TALM’s Travel” project, an application that utilizes OpenAI technologies to offer personalized travel plans. By integrating user preferences with data on travel destinations in Jordan, it enhances tourists' experience of Jordan’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
The financial technology category winners presented “GuardianEye,” a behavioral biometric fraud detection program utilizing machine learning and generative artificial intelligence. This innovative system identifies and reports suspicious activities in users’ interactions with the banking system.
The university’s president, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, commended the winning teams for their exceptional performance and innovative projects in the fields of technology and financial technology.
Abu Elhaija emphasized that this remarkable achievement reflects the students’ ambition and creativity in turning their ideas into reality, further enhancing the university’s position as a prominent institution for education and scientific research.
Members of the winning teams expressed gratitude to the university administration and the Deanship of Student Affairs for their support, highlighting that winning the competition marks a significant milestone in their academic and professional journey.
