HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), opened the 3rd International Conference on New Trends in Computing Sciences (ICTCS'25). The conference, organized by the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences at PSUT in cooperation with the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and with technical support from the IEEE Jordan Section, features researchers from 33 countries and five keynote speakers from Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Norway, and Germany.
The conference aims to provide an international platform for scientists, researchers, and professionals from around the world to connect with their colleagues in Jordan, exchanging ideas, sharing insights, and presenting research on emerging trends in computing science and technology.
The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Wissam Rabadi, former Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology; representatives from El Hassan Science City institutions; several members of the university's Board of Trustees and deans; as well as researchers and computer science enthusiasts from various local and international universities. The event also included professors and students from the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, including those from the undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programs.
In her opening speech, Her Highness welcomed the participants and expressed pride in hosting the conference, which highlights international cooperation and the idea that science has no borders. She also mentioned that the conference marks the 55th anniversary of the Royal Scientific Society, a leader in innovation and the first to introduce computers to Jordan.
Princess Sumaya emphasized that PSUT and RSS remain committed to using science and technology for the benefit of humanity, in line with His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision to create a knowledge economy, empower Jordanian youth, and strengthen Jordan’s role in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Her Highness also pointed out that the university’s vision aligns with the National Council for Future Technology, recently launched under the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the direct supervision of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. This vision aims to position Jordan as a leader in global technology through strategic partnerships between the government, academia, and industry.
On Jordan’s Flag Day, Princess Sumaya emphasized that PSUT and RSS’s commitment to science and innovation also serves to strengthen Jordan’s security and resilience in the face of challenges. She added that scientific institutions, led by PSUT and RSS, are not just centers of knowledge but also play a key role in supporting Jordan’s security and dignity, working towards a strong and secure future driven by science.
Princess Sumaya concluded by saying that universities and research centers should lead the way to the future. By including emerging technologies and creative thinking in education, we prepare students not only to take part in the digital economy but also to help shape it with clear vision and strong values.
Prof. Arafat Awajan, Vice President of the Royal Scientific Society for Scientific Research and Chair of the Conference, said this year’s third edition includes a complete technical program with keynote speeches, expert discussions, and peer-reviewed papers.
He added that the three-day event features over 81 papers from 33 countries, presented in 20 in-person and virtual sessions. Panel discussions will cover topics like AI-powered startups, edge computing, machine learning for smart cities, image processing, data use in education, digital forensics, incident response, and new cybersecurity threats.
Awajan mentioned that the papers cover topics such as artificial intelligence, data science, IoT, robotics, cybersecurity, machine learning, and smart systems. He also highlighted that all accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore digital library and indexed in Scopus.
Dr. Mousa Al-Akhras, Director of the IEEE Jordan Section, expressed pride in the partnership with Princess Sumaya University for Technology. He acknowledged the active involvement of University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering Dr. Osama Abu Sharkh, and Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences Dr. Firas Al-Ghanem, which reflects their strong commitment to academic excellence and participation in global scientific organizations. Al-Akhras also highlighted that Prof. Abu Elhaija received the prestigious IEEE Region 8 Clementina Saduwa Award in 2012 for her outstanding scientific contributions and noted the University’s students’ remarkable involvement in local and international IEEE competitions.
