Prior to joining academia, he worked as a Senior Controls Software Engineer at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now Stellantis), where he developed embedded control algorithms and on-board diagnostic software for automotive powertrain systems.
He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Oakland University, USA, and his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Yarmouk University, Jordan. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, software engineering, embedded systems, robotics, and lithium-ion battery modeling and charging optimization.
Dr. Al-Refai has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal and conference publications, participated in funded research projects, and actively collaborates on research in artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, and batteries.
