Princess Sumaya Attends 1st Orange Artificial Intelligence Incubator Graduation

HRH Princess Sumaya, chair of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), on Saturday attended the first ever Orange Artificial Intelligence Incubator graduation.

The incubator was funded in partnership with the Innovative Startups and SMEs Fund (ISSF) and co-designed with PSUT. The graduation of the first cohort was held in conjunction with the launch of the second batch, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The first group of the incubator included five teams that carried out five projects during their educational journey in the incubator, including a project for the ICT department at the Public Security Directorate that analyses road surveillance camera output, and the Kinda Arabic Writing and Spelling Education Project.

The group also included a Ride Share Project that uses AI to allow drivers to pick up more than one person on his or her way, the Laremar Project for technological applications that support decision-making mechanisms in smart systems, and the Path It project, which uses an AI-based application to help people reach specific destinations within large buildings.

Princess Sumaya noted that the same technology that has the potential to make billions of people happier, healthier and more productive also pose new challenges for citizens and governments around the world. As a result, "we need projects that look at key fields that will shape the future of the digital age,” she added.

The princess said that by the end of 2022, the global AI market is expected to be worth more than $136 billion, noting that AI could employ up to 97 million people by 2025.

Orange Jordan CEO Thierry Marigny congratulated graduates and expressed his pride in the first cohort’s achievements. He also praised their utilisation of all that incubator offered them to expand their businesses, enhance their attractiveness to investors and expand their professional networks.

ISSF CEO Mohammed Muhtaseb stressed the importance of the existing partnership between the fund, PSUT and Orange Jordan in establishing the incubator, stressing the need to keep pace with global developments and adopt cross-sector AI technology.
